Four-time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams has vowed to bounce back from her early Australian Open exit and is determined to regain her top form in 2012.
The American has had an injury-plagued 12 months and was again hit by fitness troubles out in Melbourne.
Williams was beaten in straight sets, 6-2 6-3, by the unseeded Ekaterina Makarova Down Under, meaning that she will have to wait to add to her haul of 13 Grand Slam titles. Those looking at the online Wimbledon betting will be wondering if she can pull things around.
Her attention will now turn to the other major tournaments and she will hope to be back to her brilliant best by the time Wimbledon comes around in June.
The 30-year-old has triumphed at SW19 four times in the past, her last victory coming in 2010 before her injury woes got the better of her in 2011.
Williams was well beaten by Makarova and did not want to blame injury for the exit although she insisted it played a part in the defeat.
I never blame any injury I have because I feel like she played really well and deserved the win.
However, she added she was not physically 100 per cent and that she could play 100 times better than I did this whole tournament.
Williams will clearly have to rediscover her form and fitness if she is to get back to the top of the world rankings this year but she is already thinking about how to improve and has vowed to bounce back through sheer hard work on and off the court.
I am always thinking about things I can do better next time around. Thats usually how I respond, she added.
Im already thinking about practising as soon as tomorrow. I can think of 100 things I can do.
Makarovas reward for beating Williams is a clash with fellow Russian, and former Wimbledon champion, Maria Sharapova in the next round.
