Even so, the Penguins were again a contender in the Eastern Conference, but it grew evident that they were a few bricks short of a load once the playoffs hit. 

With a healthy Crosby and Malkin, the Pens will again be 2012 Stanley Cup contenders. But they have some work to do in the offseason, most notably to find some right wingers. They don’t have a lot of cash to work with, so it will be interesting to see what kind of solutions theye up with. 

Two of the best players in the game, and an MVP-caliber goaltender.

The Penguins obviously have a lot more than that, but the trio of Sidney Crosby, Malkin and Marc-Andre Fleury are the three major factors as to why the Penguins will be Cup contenders next season and for many years toe.

Manchester United have splashed further cash by making Athletico Madrid’s young shot-stopper David De Gea the second most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the game.

The Red Devils spent a whopping £18 million on the 20 year old Spaniard who only broke into the first team at Madrid’s second biggest club at the end of last season. United manager Alex Ferguson justified the huge fee by saying he had been tracking the youthful ‘keeper for ‘quite a while’. It is expected that De Gea will be Ferguson’s number 1 this year ahead of Tomasz Kuszczak.

It’s even bright and sunny in the west of Scotland.

Today’s Hamilton card isn’t the biggest, so a small perm with bigger stakes is probably the best policy to adopt.

14.15 – A straightforward, if not exactly lucrative, opening leg. Odds-on favourite Vassaria has solid form in better races and is more than likely to win this let alone make the first two, especially considering the newcomers are largely bred to need further.

Morning thoughts for those spread betting the markets courtesy of Altium Securities. Spread betting traders will not have been affected by what was a predictably light volume session in the UK. Barcelona has managed this season to win three titles (Supercopa, Copa del Rey and Liga ACB), by beating Bilbao 64-55 (3-0 series). So far, no team had won three titles the same year.

Bilbao tried hard from the first minute, but failed against Barcelona which made a great comeback to the end of the game.
